Callison is committed to being the best firm for career development. Through a variety of programs and on-the-job experience, we help you design your own career path. Working in partnership, we provide the tools to help you reach your career goals.

Professional Development

Praise

Most of your professional development comes from day-to-day experience on the job. To leverage this, we ensure you have the opportunity to participate in ongoing dialogue with your manager. This provides valuable feedback on your performance and gives you the tools to support your career objectives. The PRAISE process is an engaging way to clearly identify areas of development in technical design and management as well as market and industry expertise.

Cal U

Cal U

Cal U is our in-house professional development program. We offer two semesters of curriculum each year focused on industry knowledge, technical standards and communication and leadership skills. These three learning tracks create a well-rounded program to support your career growth. Our Industry track focuses on the latest industry trends – and what your colleagues are working on in other studios; Lead and Collaborate teaches you to develop and apply communication, collaboration, leadership and interpersonal skills. And our Technical track helps you stay on top of evolving design criteria, best practices and standards.

Professional Memberships

We believe it's important for our staff to be actively involved in industry affiliations. Callison covers the cost of one professional membership each year.

Examples include:

Licensing & Exams

We recognize the importance of professional licensing in developing your career. We cover the cost of opening an IDP record with NCARB and have an in-house team who provide IDP info and ARE study group opportunities. We also cover ARE, NCIDQ and LEED AP exam fees upon completion. Not an architect? We provide the equivalent based on your career goals and current role at Callison.

Callison Fellowship

Callison Fellowship

Our Fellowship program recognizes staff who are key contributors to our firm. Awarded each spring, the Fellowship offers recipients professional development opportunities to grow their careers. The one-year appointment begins with a topic selection and creation of a program culminating into a presentation to the firm. Fellows are provided increased mentoring opportunities from our design leaders, recognition across the firm and funding for travel and other needs. Our Fellowship program has been active for over six years and includes more than 20 alumni whose Fellowship research has become an integral part of their project work.
