China luxury showplaces lure Washington architects
Callison in December purchased New York-based Barteluce Architects and Associates, a firm that specializes in designs for luxury retail settings. Barteluce clients include Chanel, Cartier, and Polo Ralph Lauren, among the labels that seem ubiquitous in high-end Chinese retail centers and airports.
“We’re growing much faster then the overall economy in China, and the way we’re doing it is to continue to get more than our share of existing commercial mixed use, and adding on additional services and capabilities,” Jastrem said.
“Luxury retail, we’re seeing that already aggressively growing, and we’re looking at health care right now, and we’re a year away from harvesting,” he said. “The huge data centers are six months away; we’re making proposals and having meetings now on landing some of that business.”
