Swedish MS Center Wins top design award

"They don't feel like healthcare rooms, they feel like a really nice hotel." That's what one of the judges said of the Swedish Multiple Sclerosis Center in Seattle, a Callison project which last week received the "Design IN Healthcare" award from the Northern Pacific Chapter of the International Interior Design Association. The INawards are a juried competition for interior design excellence and innovation.

One of the more unusual spaces in the MS Center is the Outdoor Therapy Terrace, where patients can practice walking on various surfaces without the risk of falling thanks to an innovative harness system incorporated into garden trellis. The jurors gave high praise to the design team for their thoughtfulness in the integration of evidence-based tenets and for the sheer beauty of the space.
