Progress on City Creek Center in Full Swing
New Downtown Rising In Salt Lake City
December 03, 2009 - Construction is well underway on a revitalization of downtown Salt Lake City. City Creek Center, located directly south of Temple Square and spanning two city blocks, is expected to attract 10 million visitors a year upon completion. Global architecture and design firm Callison, in collaboration with other designers, provided the retail master plan and architectural and interior design for the retail and for-rent residential components of this mixed-use project. Retail on the two blocks will include Nordstrom and Macy’s as anchors and will be completed spring 2012.

- Developed by City Creek Reserve, Inc and The Taubman Company, City Creek Center is the largest domestic project under construction that Callison has collaborated on. City Creek Center will integrate new retail and residential with existing high-rise office towers and an operating hotel to provide a vibrant downtown hub.
- With three construction firms working on the project, more than 1,500 construction workers are currently on-site in downtown Salt Lake City.
- 800,000 square feet of retail space will feature nationally-recognized anchors Nordstrom and Macy’s, two mini-anchors, high quality full-serve restaurants and a full-service grocery store.
- Six acres of landscaped open space with water features will create a pedestrian-friendly urban environment.
- The retail center’s world-class design will incorporate a fully retractable glass roof for a climate-controlled shopping experience year-round.
- An 800-foot long pedestrian walkway will feature a 140-foot sky bridge with art glass that will span Salt Lake City’s Main Street.
- The fully integrated mixed-use project will also include a 1,000 seat, 10-kitchen food court,1.6 million square feet of office space and 700 urban residences.
- City Creek Center gets its name from historic City Creek, the snow-fed source of drinking and irrigation water that flowed through the northern Salt Lake Valley when pioneering settlers first arrived in 1847.
- The project is planned to be a LEED certified neighborhood development with green roofs, integrated recycling program and high efficiency mechanical systems.
