April 15, 2010 - Despite a slowdown in the domestic market, international architecture and design firm Callison announces the completion of several retail and corporate workplace projects in New York.
“This economic downturn has severely impacted the retail sector,” said Callison’s Executive Vice President Paula Stafford. “Still, many of our clients continue to expand their portfolios because of appealing domestic real estate deals. They can find quality locations at great prices and plan long-term strategies for growth. Well-established brands continue to create compelling environments and are looking to the future to secure key locations when the economy rebounds.”
Retail
Tommy Hilfiger recently opened its global flagship, the company’s largest retail store to date, on 5th Avenue. Designed in partnership with Tommy Hilfiger’s creative team, the design blends a mix of modern and traditional elements to pay homage to the building’s original heritage. The interiors continue that theme combining elements of the historic Tommy Hilfiger brand with contemporary finishes.
Swarovski – known for its luxury, precision-cut crystal – partnered with Callison to adapt its brand and retail space for the unique SoHo environment. The new design and layout encourages customers to touch, hold and even design their own custom pieces. Brick and crystal intermix in the adaptive reuse of a historic SoHo building where the two-story space features a 2,500 sf café with full kitchen and a cascading, custom chandelier.

Corporate workplace
The updated operations office for the lifestyle media leader, Scripps Networks provides a flexible and functional space reflecting the warm, inviting atmosphere associated with the company’s offerings, which include HGTV and Food Network. The design features glass door offices, flexible work stations and a well-appointed café to create a lively work environment. The design meets the functional needs of each group while allowing 26 percent more employees per floor.
ELM, an environmental consulting practice, looked to Callison to design and deliver its New York office. Earth tones and oak finishes create a warm and inviting atmosphere resonating with its clients and reflecting ELM’s goals as a firm. The design also provides the flexibility necessary to support the continued growth of its practice.
