A Pearl Rises Out of the Global Recession

Luxury development in Arabian Gulf nearing completion

July 21, 2010 - When Dubai was hit by the global recession, many thought the building boom in the Gulf region was over. More than $75 billion in projects were placed on hold or cancelled. The city of Doha, in the state of Qatar, is host to one project that has stayed on course.

Porto Arabia, the flagship phase of The Pearl-Qatar, will be completed by end of year 2010. Retailers and residents are steadily moving in and the boardwalk has quickly become a popular gathering place for Doha residents and visitors.

Callison provided master planning for The Pearl-Qatar and architectural design for Porto Arabia. The Pearl-Qatar is owned and developed by United Development Company.
